You did it! After all the back and forth with the bride, discussing what color and what style of dress you’re going to wear, you’ve finally picked a dress that you like and now you’re off to worry about what to do with your hair. You don’t want it to be too over the top as to overshadow the bride on her big day but you also don’t want to look sloppy. So where do you start?
The easiest way to approach this subject is to start by working with what you have- the dress… and us! We have organized five common bridesmaid dress styles coupled with hairstyles that will complete the wedding day look so the bride only has to worry about herself.
1. One Shoulder + Updo
When you have a dress as unique and as fun as a one-shoulder dress, you are naturally inclined to want to show off that shoulder without looking like you’re trying too hard. (And we totally understand!) An updo, in this case, will do just the trick for you. Whether it is a simple twisted updo or a braided one, trust us, you can’t go wrong with it.
2. Halter + Braid
Halter has become one of the most popular bridesmaid dress styles in the past few years. It’s chic, it’s elegant, and it’s got a nice silhouette. You’ll want to pair it with a braid. In this particular case, we like a classic fishtail braid for its simplicity. But if you want to go all out, we also recommend a milkmaid braid or a five strand braid. While you’re at it, feel free to add your own twist to it and have some fun!
3. Strapless + Accessories (Flower crowns, headbands, barrettes)
A strapless dress opens you up to endless possibilities with your hair. You can wear your hair as is, have it straightened, or with some loose curls. What we want to focus on is the hair accessories. Flower crowns are a big favorite amongst brides, not only for its romantic touch to the wedding, but also because they provide a refined and unison look for the bridesmaids. This season, though, we want you to consider barrettes and headbands. Barrettes and headbands have been making a major comeback since earlier this year and the trend will likely carry through to next year. They’re so chic you’re not even going to remember why you didn’t think of them sooner.
4. Cold Shoulder + Waves/Curls
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good cold shoulder dress? It brings a soft and romantic tone for the wedding that might just make the mother of the bride (guests?) weep a little before the bride even walks out. Oh and did we mention it looks good on any body type? For a dreamy dress like this one you can just wear your hair with some loose waves and call it a day. It’s easy, it’s simple, and it’s cute. What more could a girl ask for?
5. Spaghetti Straps + Half Up Half Down
Another staple for bridesmaids is the spaghetti straps dress. It’s like that eyeliner in your makeup case, you may not wear it all the time, but it’s always there for you when you need it. And to spice things up, you gotta pair it with something else. Whether it’s eyeshadow or mascara, it’s really up to you. So we want to pair the dress with a half up half down style. You drive the right amount of focus to the dress and the hair, nothing more and nothing less but it’s just right.
