Self-Care: Why Does It Matter Now More Than Ever?

Self-Care: Why Does It Matter Now More Than Ever?

Hi it’s Annie from Leading Ladies, and this week I wanted to take a little break from our regular bridesmaid-ing content and talk about something else- self-care.

It’s been a little over a week since the stay-at-home orders have been issued for us here in Los Angeles. For others, it may have started even beforehand. Beaches, hiking trails, restaurants, and gyms are all closed and there seems to be no light at the end of this tunnel. This is a very difficult time for everyone. We started the year with so much positivity and optimism, “2020, it’s supposed to be a good year!”. Maybe it hasn’t been exactly the good year we were hoping for, but it is definitely a year of change.

Whether you are a healthcare professional, a grocery store worker, or you are working from home, this year has been anything but easy. We have to come to terms with the fact that social distancing is the new normal and self quarantine is the best we can do to protect the people we love. So what can we do in the midst of all this craziness?

Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. There is no better time than now to connect with and to take care of yourself, whether it takes in the form of cooking, reading, or even knitting. Don’t think of it as the end of the world, but rather see it as a time of opportunity. Every cloud has a silver lining—find the opportunity in the present. Take this time for yourself, pick up a new hobby, get started on that spring cleaning, or whatever it is that makes YOU happy. Remember, you are doing this for yourself and not for anyone else.

Lastly, don’t forget to check up on your loved ones and ask how they’re doing. We are living in unprecedented times and we should all be supporting one another. Today may look a bit different from last week, but we are here for you. Let us know what we can do for you and let’s get through this together!

With Love,

Annie
